Nano-science and Biotechnology, September 2012 - Rodrigo Artunduaga, PhD, new publication entitled Nanociencia y biotecnología. Análisis de riesgo ambiental (Nanoscience and Biotechnology: Environmental Risk Assessment) was recently published by the Universidad Externado de Colombia. This document makes contributions to the analysis of potential risks of the use and environmental release of the products resulting from the interaction or convergence of nano-science and recombinant DNA technologies. It includes basic elements of risk analysis: identification and characterization of the hazard, followed by exposure assessment and risk characterization; the context of risk and its evaluation criteria (the concepts of familiarity, uncertainty and substantial equivalence), risk management and alternative analysis, as well as public perception and communication of risk to the community.
